The ByteDance-owned app, which relies heavily on ad revenue, has seen a surge in promotions for dubious products—from weight-loss supplements to unverified medical treatments.

Parent company ByteDance has prioritized AI investments, earmarking $12 billion for AI chips through 2025. Yet this technological push coincides with a rise in deceptive ads exploiting AI-generated content. Recent examples include promotions for GLP-1 patches lacking active ingredients and unsubstantiated cortisol-reduction claims.
